Body Image Bootcamp | Austin Boudoir Photography

I went to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico last October to attend a workshop by my incredibly talented, amazing & just overall wonderful friend Teri Hofford. The workshop was really more of a retreat called “Body Image Bootcamp“. To say it was COMPLETELY LIFE CHANGING would be a massive understatement.

ARRIVAL

We arrived and were immediately welcomed by Teri & Beth Olson, Teri’s assistant and official bad ass. The villa was beautiful and FULL of inspiration. The house staff greeted us with Margaritas, guacamole, chips, hummus & veggies. It was PERFECT!

As I mentioned in my previous “Year In Review” post, it was completely magical and intense, and scary and beautiful and heart wrenching and hilarious and deeply healing. It was exactly EVERYTHING I needed.

Body Image Bootcamp came at exactly the right time in my life. I needed soul searching and healing and that’s what I got.

PHOTOSHOOTS

I even took some time to model a bit for a few of my friends.

I love being shot by fellow boudoir photographers. We all have a common goal in mind and know exactly how it feels to be on both sides of the camera.

I was also lucky enough to photograph a few of those ladies. I wish we had more free time to shoot. I definitely would’ve wanted to photograph every single woman there….including the house staff. Seriously. Everyone was just so beautiful.

ART JOURNALING

While there, we were encouraged to start an art journal. I remember doing this, and loving it as a teenager. I still have my art journal from back then.

In the middle of the porch, where the workshop took place, there was a magical coffee table covered in magazines, stickers, glue, scissors, glitter, markers… It.Was.Heavenly.

So, we journaled as we listened to Teri and it was so cathartic.

I’ve never prayed or mediated in my life. Looking back on it, that journaling was a form of meditation for me. It was wonderful. And I plan on continuing to work on my art journal as a form of self love from now on.

BIBC CERTIFIED

One thing I’m super excited about is that I became certified to lead the Body Image Bootcamp at my own studio this year.

It’ll most likely be a 6 week course, with meetings once a week for an hour or so each time. It’ll require seriously dedicated women, ready & determined to better themselves and to continue down the path of their own self-love journey.

I love the fact that I’ve been through the bootcamp myself. I know exactly how each of the bootcampers will feel during each step of the whole experience. I think that’s vital to our success.

I feel the same way about boudoir. If you are a boudoir photographer, and you have not had your own boudoir session — WHAT ARE YOU EVEN DOING? Who are you kidding?! Ha!

Really, though. You must walk the walk if you talk the talk.

I will remember my experience in Mexico with this INCREDIBLE group of women forever and I will cherish those memories always. I truly think the experience and these ladies saved me, in a lot of ways, and I will be forever thankful to them.

I am especially thankful for Teri. She created the Body Image Bootcamp. Words can’t express how much she means to me.

Sooooo…now it’s YOUR turn!
